I sometimes get the ring as soon as I arrive at Firelink Shrine. I usually just use one humanity to make myself human, jump down the catacombs, summon leeroy and progress to the Tomb of the Giants. I wouldn't recommend doing this if you don't know the exact path you have to go since you can't rest at a bonfire and it takes pretty long.

I understand droprate does not go beyond 410 in ds1. However i only have 200 item discovery with or without symbol of avarice. And i dont have the gold serpent ring yet. So why the effing F.
